Do You Limit Which VMs Are Listed On NME Screens?

Do you limit which VMs are listed on Nerdio Manager screens?

A set of frequently asked, and related, questions are:

  • Is there a policy that limits which VMs are available for a particular subscription?

  • Do we show all VMs in Nerdio Manager?

  • How does Nerdio Manager query available VMs for a subscription or region?

Let's review some background information first. When you add a static or dynamic host pool under your AVD tenant, you need to select a VM size.

The list of sizes shown in the VM Size drop-down list are per your Nerdio Manager app subscription and region. Nerdio Manager uses a Microsoft API to get a list of available VM sizes. See this Microsoft article for details about the API.

If any VM size is not available for a subscription or region, it doesn't appear in the list. At times, even if a VM size is available in a specific Azure region, it cannot be used due to the subscription having restrictions on a particular size. In such cases, we show the VM size in the drop-down list, but don't allow users to select it (the option is disabled).
