Insights: Costs and efficiency

Nerdio Manager allows you to capture and report per-user costs by allocating the total cost of your AVD deployment (compute, storage, network, PaaS, SaaS, etc.) based on individual desktop usage duration within the selected time frame. The Costs & Efficiency Insights page in Nerdio Manager enables you to view and download cost information and metrics related to administrative efficiency.

User cost attribution

The User Cost Attribution feature in Nerdio Manager allows you to capture and report on per individual user costs based on the allocation of the total cost of your AVD deployment (compute, storage, network, PaaS, SaaS, etc.) to individuals based on the duration of their usage of AVD desktops during the selected time frame. The report can be shown in Nerdio Manager and exported to CSV or consumed in Power BI. When Power BI is used, you can add your own data sources. If you have a data source that links the user for a cost center, for example, you can report on AVD costs per cost center. The cost attribution feature enables you for show-back and charge back operations.

To view and configure User Cost Attribution insights:

  1. In Nerdio Manager, navigate to Insights > Costs & Efficiency, then select the User Cost Attribution tab.

  2. User Cost Attribution is a powerful feature with extensive reporting and customization features. For detailed guidance, see the dedicated pages for this feature, starting with User cost attribution overview.

Operational efficiency

Note: This feature is in Public Preview.

Nerdio Manager's operational efficiency dashboard provides an overview of administrator time and effort saved by using Nerdio to manage your Azure services, compared to an equivalent deployment managed natively in Azure. It also offers recommendations for further improving these savings.

Note: Measures of the benefits and efficiency savings offered by Nerdio Manager are based on a comparison with the projected overhead incurred by an experienced administrator performing equivalent actions natively in Azure to those automated by Nerdio Manager. This comparison is based on robust and reproducible measurements in a test environment. Precise details of the comparison process are available on request.

To view operational efficiency insights:

  1. In Nerdio Manager, navigate to Insights > Costs & Efficiency, then select the Operational Efficiency tab.

  2. Apply filters:

    • Date Range: Select the calendar icon, and then select the start and end dates.

    • Time Granularity: From the drop-down list, select the time interval between the metrics. You can select from 1 hour up to 24 hours.

  3. The dashlets below display the filtered data metrics. For each one, you can take the following actions:

    • Export : Select to download the corresponding report data. A dropdown appears allowing you to export to.csv, .pdf, or .png format.

    • Expand : Select to view the dashlet full screen.

    • Refresh : Select to refresh the data in the dashlet.

    • Info : Select to review the tooltip.

    • Hover over: Hover over any location on the dashlet to view the details of that specific data point.

The following operational efficiency insights are available:

Efficiency Index

This dashlet provides an overall indicator of how well your environment is taking advantage of Nerdio Manager's efficiency features, by assigning it one of four values:

  • Exceptional performance

  • Strong performance

  • Standard performance

  • Baseline performance.

Administrator Time Savings

This dashlet provides a breakdown of time saved by using Nerdio Manager to automate administrative tasks in your environment, versus a typical administrator performing these tasks manually in Azure. The number of data points on the chart is governed by the Time Granularity setting.

Efficiency Savings

This dashlet displays the overall percentage savings (in terms of time and manual actions) achieved by using Nerdio Manager to automate administrative tasks in your environment, versus a typical administrator performing these tasks manually in Azure.

Administrator Action Savings

This dashlet provides a breakdown of individual administrator actions saved by using Nerdio Manager to automate administrative tasks in your environment, versus a typical administrator performing these tasks manually in Azure. The number of data points on the chart is governed by the Time Granularity setting.

Efficiency Recommendations

This table provides a breakdown of further efficiency savings that can be made in your environment by enabling or modifying the configuration of Nerdio Manager savings.
