Manage and publish Windows 365 Cloud Apps

Manage and publish Windows 365 Cloud Apps

This article guides you through the process of provisioning Windows 365 Cloud Apps in Nerdio Manager.

Prerequisites

      Nerdio Manager subscription

The tasks in this procedure apply to the following Nerdio Manager subscription level(s):

AVD Core

False

AVD Premium

True

Windows 365

True

Unified Endpoint Management

True

       System/environment requirements

  • Intune and Windows 365 management must be enabled in the target tenant. Follow Enable and configure Intune and ensure that Windows 365 is set to Manage under the Configurable Features or Delegated User Features heading.

  • You must have sufficient Windows 365 Frontline licenses in your tenant to cover the number of users who will access the published Cloud App(s) concurrently. If the number of concurrent connection attempts exceeds the number of available licenses, additional users will be denied access and see an error message until the number of concurrent sessions falls below the licensing limit.

  • You must have access to at least one Windows 365 image containing the applications you want to publish as Cloud Apps.

Role-based access control (RBAC) and permissions

             Nerdio Manager roles

The Admin Nerdio Manager role is required to provision and manage Windows 365 Cloud Apps.

             Nerdio Manager access levels

Following the Principle of Least Privilege (PoLP), you can define a Nerdio Manager custom role to manage Windows 365 Cloud Apps. The role must be granted Full access in the INTUNE > WINDOWS 365 module.

Create a provisioning policy for Windows 365 Cloud Apps

Before you can publish Cloud Apps for access to end users, you first need to create a dedicated provisioning policy to make the Cloud Apps available to those users.

To create a Cloud Apps-specific provisioning policy:

  1. Navigate to Endpoints > Windows 365 > Provisioning Policies.

  2. Select +New policy.

  3. Enter a name and description for the policy.

  4. In the License type dropdown, select Frontline.

  5. In the dropdown that appears immediately below, select Shared Mode.

  6. In the Experience dropdown, select Cloud App.

  7. In the Cloud PC image dropdown, select the image containing the applications you want to publish as Cloud Apps. You can select either a Managed Image (created by Nerdio Manager in the Desktop Images menu), a Microsoft Gallery Image, or any of the custom images uploaded to Endpoint Manager directly.

  8. Select the language, region, and network connection you want the provisioning policy to use.

Note: See Create a provisioning policy for guidance on choosing these settings.

  9. Under the Manual Entra ID group assignments heading, create one or more Entra ID assignments:

    1. In the Group dropdown, start typing a group name until it appears, and then select it.

    2. Select the available Cloud PC size that best meets your capacity needs.

    3. Type a name for the assignment.

    4. Enter an integer value (greater than zero, and smaller than the maximum available) for the number of Cloud PCs you want to assign to this policy.

    5. Select Assign.

    6. Repeat to assign other Entra ID groups to the policy.

  10. Select Save to create the policy and make the Cloud Apps available for provisioning.

Note: The available Cloud Apps list will populate after a short interval, during which the provisioning policy is applied to your Azure tenant; if it remains empty immediately after creating the policy, this does not indicate a misconfiguration.

Manage Cloud Apps availability to end users

Once you've created a provisioning policy for Cloud Apps, you can control the availability of individual Cloud Apps to end users in the assigned Entra ID groups by publishing and unpublishing them.

To publish a Cloud App:

  1. Navigate to Endpoints > Windows 365 > Cloud Apps.

  2. Locate the Cloud App you want to publish in the list. Cloud Apps that are available to publish to end users show Ready in the Status column.

  3. To publish the Cloud App, select the publish icon or open the context menu and select Publish.

Note: If any previously published Cloud Apps show an error in the Status column, you can attempt to resolve the issue and republish them by selecting the Reset & Publish option from the context menu.

To unpublish a Cloud App:

  1. Navigate to Endpoints > Windows 365 > Cloud Apps.

  2. Locate the Cloud App you want to unpublish in the list. Cloud Apps that are currently available to end users show Published in the Status column.

  3. To unpublish the Cloud App, select the unpublish icon or open the context menu and select Unpublish.
