In Nerdio Manager for Enterprise 8.2, the Executive Insights dashboard has been updated so that cost and savings figures reflect Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) resources only, and the Nerdio Manager ROI calculation has been revised to account for the full scope of Nerdio licensing costs. The AVD Cost, Projected Native Costs, and Nerdio Manager Savings charts previously included Nerdio Manager resource cost in their underlying calculations. From Nerdio Manager 8.2, Nerdio Manager resource cost is removed from all three, so the figures shown reflect AVD costs only.
To match the updated scope, all three charts have been renamed and their tooltips rewritten so it's clear at a glance that they cover AVD only, not the broader Nerdio Manager environment.
The calculation behind the Nerdio Manager ROI metric has been amended. The updated ROI tooltip (below) describes what is now included in the calculation.
The ROI tooltip now reads:
Estimated Nerdio ROI based on Estimated Savings (AVD) compared to actual Nerdio licensing as well as Nerdio Manager app service and database costs via Azure Cost Management API. Nerdio licensing costs currently includes both AVD and non-AVD user licensing.
In other words, ROI is calculated as AVD-related estimated savings compared against actual Nerdio licensing costs plus Nerdio Manager app service and database costs, all retrieved via the Azure Cost Management API. Note that the Nerdio licensing cost used in this comparison currently includes licensing for both AVD and non-AVD users.
Previously, if Nerdio Manager was unable to retrieve Nerdio license cost via the Azure Cost Management API, it fell back to an estimate of $10 per Monthly Active User (MAU).
From Nerdio Manager 8.2, that fallback has been removed. If Nerdio Manager cannot retrieve the license cost via the Azure Cost Management API, an error is displayed instead.
Important
The impact on administrators is as follows: if you see an error where the ROI or license cost figure used to appear, check that the Azure Cost Management API is reachable and that Nerdio Manager has the required permissions to query it. Nerdio Manager will no longer substitute an estimated value.
Why do my AVD Cost, Projected Native Costs, and Nerdio Manager Savings numbers look different after upgrading to 8.2?
These charts no longer include Nerdio Manager resource cost in their calculations, and they now reflect AVD costs only. The change in figures is expected and reflects the narrower, AVD-only scope.
Why did my Nerdio Manager ROI change after upgrading?
The ROI calculation itself was amended. It's now based on estimated AVD savings compared against actual Nerdio licensing costs and Nerdio Manager app service and database costs, all pulled via the Azure Cost Management API. Since Nerdio licensing costs currently include both AVD and non-AVD user licensing, environments with a significant proportion of non-AVD licensing may see a different ROI figure than before.
I'm seeing an error instead of a license cost or ROI figure. What should I do?
This means Nerdio Manager could not retrieve Nerdio license cost via the Azure Cost Management API. Unlike in previous versions, Nerdio Manager will not fall back to an estimated $10-per-MAU figure. Confirm that the Azure Cost Management API is accessible and that the necessary permissions are in place, then refresh Executive Insights.
Why am I seeing a message about auto-scale on the Executive Insights page?
This message appears when an environment's ROI is very low or negative. It's intended to highlight that increasing auto-scale usage can help reduce cost and improve ROI.
