Automate Migration of Session Hosts Between Host Pools

Problem - We operate a large number of Personal session hosts due to business requirements (AAD Joined, Intune managed). Moving these sessions hosts between host pools is required at times, but is a complex process which must be carried out directly within Azure. This prevents our support desk Nerdio administrators from being able to action these requests (resulting in escalation and delays).

Description - A GUI function within the Nerdio portal would allow an administrator (holding the required RBAC role) to migrate session host(s) from one host pool to another.

Vision - A GUI driven (rather than scripted) function within the Nerdio portal that allows for the migration of AVD session hosts between host pools. Ideally the migrated session host(s) would automatically inherit all of the configuration within the new host pool (Session Limits, RDP Settings Profile, User Self-Service,  Autoscale, Host and storage type etc). An outage to the session host(s) being migrated is expected.

Bupa requested this last year and it is still pending. Great to hear other users of Nerdio would like this functionality as well. Hopefully we can get some traction on this now

Hi Jamie Weir & Robin White. Thanks for this feedback. We do currently offer a scripted solution for this (the reinstall AVD agent script can be used for this purpose), however it's helpful to hear your requests for a GUI based option. Thanks again for sharing this idea!

Thanks Toby Skerritt - that script will add the session host back into the same host pool it came from, is that correct? Does the script need to be cloned and customised to move a session host to another host pool, or does it prompt for the destination host pool at some point (I've never run that script, and just had a quick skim of it and it looks like it pops the session host back into the original host pool).

Hi Jamie Weir - sorry for my delayed reply!

That is correct, the script can be cloned and changes made within the cloned script to specify the required target host pool. I'd suggest testing with a couple of demo pools first to ensure you are comfortable with the process. We could potentially add a GUI based function, but this would take some time, hopefully this suggestion provides a workaround!

Hi Team. Please would it be possible to look at this feature request again? Are there any plans to offer this soon? It would be really helpful for us and it looks like it is highly requested by many customers.

Hi everyone, we will revisit this request and will investigate an implementation.
This would not be a short-term endeavor, but we will review what we can achieve within a simpler GUI workflow.

Thank you for raising this.

I totally agree with this feature request.   Being able to automate moving Azure Desktops between host pools in mass would be awesome.

This is the great tool and I can use it like almost every week.
