I have a need to run an inventory script across (almost) all pools twice per month.
Can we have a way to run a script on multiple pools by simply checking a box for each pool? It would save me a lot of time
Currently, I start on the host pool list, and select Hosts > Run Script , fill out the script name, check "exclude powered off hosts" and fill in the # of hosts per group, for EVERY pool, one at a time.
It would also be nice if I could be notified by email when the script has completed running in entirety, and if there were any errors. Especially if it was broken down by number of errors per pool.
Run scripts on multiple pools at once
hi Ryan Skelly - sorry for the delayed reply on this. We are looking at options to allow bulk actions at the host pool level.
The expected outcome is the ability to multi-select pools from the pool list, and them perform a limited subset of actions against the selected pools (one of these being 'run script').
Do you think this change will meet your requirements and avoid the need to repeat actions? Thanks.
Nerdio Product Support , yes that does sound like it will work for us.
It would be helpful if a report is logged (which can be sent to the user via email via notification settings), showing exactly which machines and pools it ran for, and which, if any, have errored. Perhaps a CSV export of this would be easiest to work with, as it's assumed the Nerdio user is doing this because they have a lot of pools or machines. Ability to process the results in excel would be ideal. Or at least in a way it can be copied and pasted into excel from the portal log?
I'd also like to emphasize the importance of having the same options available in that normal "Run script" UI: for processing "in groups of n", "# of errors before failure", as well as the checkbox to skip powered off hosts (or not). It's very valuable that Nerdio can power on a host, set to drain mode so no users hit it during, and remember to set undrain / return it to the off state afterwards (when skip powered off is unchecked). Its also valuable to leave it checked, and know we are only touching hosts already powered on. We have frequent scenarios that benefit from both approaches so we definitely want that checkbox available.
Thank you for looking into getting this done, a lot of my colleagues share the ask! And we are tried of clicking a zillion times :-)
Thanks for this clarification Ryan Skelly. We will capture the additional request in relation to results as a separate item. We will ensure that your request for the same scripted action options to be available is noted in the feature request.
