right now when you create a desktop image you can add a boot diagnostic storage account to it via the newrdio gui. This is great but it doesn't stop you from choosing an SA that is not in the same resource group. Now Nerdio support tells me that there is a limitation in azure that requires the SA to be in the same RG as the VM. So there should be a validation check in nerdio preventing you choosing this when it will not work
