Support for Moving a User’s Dedicated VM Between Host Pools in AVD

We have scenarios where a user has a dedicated VM in a Dynamic Host Pool and there is a need to reassign that VM to a different host pool. Currently, there is no supported method to move a VM between host pools within AVD.

Adding this capability would:

  • Allow administrators to reassign dedicated VMs without reprovisioning.
  • Preserve user assignments, session data, and configurations.
  • Reduce administrative overhead and downtime during host pool reorganization or optimization.

Business Impact:
This feature would enable efficient management of dedicated users, such as VIPs or service accounts, and help optimize host pool usage without forcing users to lose their personalized environments.

Suggested Capability:

  • Provide a supported workflow or tool in AVD to move a dedicated VM from one host pool to another, while maintaining the user’s session and profile data.

Hi Esakkipandi and Cameron, would this be for a persistent personal single-session desktop? If so, this is on our roadmap to investigate supporting migrating session host between personal desktop host pools.
