Import existing Azure Cloud host pools to Nerdio Manager

Import existing Azure Cloud host pools to Nerdio Manager

If you have existing host pools in Azure Cloud, you can import them to Nerdio Manager. For this, you need to associate an existing Azure Virtual Desktop workspace with Nerdio Manager. Once associated, you can manage the workspace's resources directly in Nerdio Manager.

To import and manage existing Azure Cloud host pools in Nerdio Manager, complete the following steps:

Note: For details about importing existing Azure Local host pools, see Import existing Azure Local host pools to Nerdio Manager.

Step 1: Assign an Azure workspace to Nerdio Manager

To manage an existing Azure Virtual Desktop workspace in Nerdio Manager, you first need to associate it with Nerdio Manager.

Note: Before you can associate the workspace, make sure that the required setup is complete. This includes linking the appropriate resource group, virtual network (VNet), and any other relevant resources. For a complete list of prerequisites, see Implementation Guide.

To assign an Azure workspace to Nerdio Manager:

  1. Navigate to Workspaces.

  2. On the Workspaces tab, in the upper-right of the screen, select Filter.

  3. In the Filter dialog box, turn the Unassigned workspaces toggle on.

The unassigned workspaces are displayed on the Workspaces blade.

  4. Next to the unassigned workspace that you wish to manage with Nerdio Manager, select the link  icon.

  5. In the Confirm Action dialog box, select OK to confirm assigning the selected workspace to Nerdio Manager.

The assigned workspace is now displayed with additional details and can be managed in Nerdio Manager.

  6. Select the assigned workspace to view and manage its static host pools.

Step 2: Associate imported session hosts with existing VMs

Associate imported Azure Cloud session hosts with existing VMs to avoid redeployment.

To associate imported session hosts with existing VMs:

  1. On the Static Host Pools tab, select the imported host pool.

  2. On the Session Hosts tab, do one of the following:

    • To associate a single VM:

      1. Next to the session host you wish to associate, select Associate VM .

      2. In the new dialog box, provide the following information:

        • Select resource group: From the drop-down menu, select the VM resource group.

        • Select virtual machine: From the drop-down menu, select the VM.

        • Enable the toggle to confirm that you want to associate the selected VM and host pool.

    • To associate multiple VMs at once rather than individually:

      1. At the bottom of the screen, select Associate VMs.

      2. In the new dialog box, in the Select resource group field, select the VM resource group.

      3. Select OK.

  3. Select OK.

Step 3: Convert imported Azure Cloud host pools to dynamic

Imported Azure Cloud host pools are static by default. However, in Nerdio Manager, you can convert them to dynamic. This enables the Auto-scaling capabilities for more efficient resource management, optimized performance, and reduced costs.

To convert a static host pool to dynamic:

  1. On the Static Host Pools tab, locate the host pool you wish to convert.

  2. Next to that host pool, select Convert to Dynamic . For more details, see Convert a static host pool to dynamic.

  3. In the confirmation dialog box, select Confirm.

Step 4: Configure Auto-scaling for imported host pools

By default, the Auto-scale option is off for any imported host pools. Once the host pool is converted to dynamic, you're directed to the host pool auto-scale configuration page. For details, see Enable dynamic host pool Auto-scaling.
