Migrate from AVD to Windows 365 Cloud PCs

Nerdio Manager enables you to easily migrate your current AVD personal hosts to Windows 365 Cloud PCs. You have the option of choosing from the following migration options:

  • Individual host pools

  • Multiple host pools (bulk selection)

  • Individual hosts

  • Multiple hosts (bulk selection)

Once you have selected the migration option, you will be prompted to complete the Migrate to Windows 365 wizard.

Intune Configuration Requirements

Intune must be configured as follows for the migration:

  • Intune managed devices: Must be at least Read-only.

  • Group membership: Must be set to Manage.

  • Windows 365: Must be set to Manage.

Migrate individual host pools

Nerdio Manager allows you to select an individual host pool for migration to Windows 365 Cloud PC.

To migrate an individual host pool:

  1. Navigate to Workspaces , and from the list , select the workspace that contains the host pool you want to migrate.

  2. Navigate to the host pool you want to migrate, and from the more options menu, select Hosts > Migrate to Windows 365.

  3. Complete the configuration using the Migrate to Windows 365 wizard.

Bulk migrate multiple host pools

Nerdio Manager allows you to select multiple host pools for migration to Windows 365 Cloud PC.

To bulk migrate multiple host pools:

  1. Navigate to Workspaces , and from the list , select the workspace that contains the host pools you want to migrate.

  2. Select the host pools you want to migrate, and from the Select bulk action menu, select Migrate to Windows 365 for selected (x). The (x) denotes the number of host pools that will be migrated.

  3. Complete the configuration using the Migrate to Windows 365 wizard.

Migrate individual hosts

Nerdio Manager allows you to select an individual host for migration to Windows 365 Cloud PC.

To migrate an individual host:

  1. Navigate to Workspaces , and from the list , select the workspace that contains the host pool and host you want to migrate.

  2. Select the host pool that contains the individual host that you want to migrate

  3. Navigate to the individual host you want to migrate, and from the more options menu, select Migrate to Windows 365.

  4. Complete the configuration using the Migrate to Windows 365 wizard.

Bulk migrate multiple hosts

Nerdio Manager allows you to select multiple hosts for migration to Windows 365 Cloud PC.

To bulk migrate multiple hosts:

  1. Navigate to Workspaces , and from the list , select the workspace that contains the host pool and hosts that you want to migrate.

  2. Select the host pool that contains the hosts that you want to migrate.

  3. Select the hosts that you want to migrate, and from the Select bulk action menu, select Migrate to Windows 365 for selected (x). The (x) denotes the number of host pools that will be migrated.

  4. Complete the configuration using the Migrate to Windows 365 wizard.

Configure the migrate to Windows 365 wizard

Once you have selected what you are migrating, you can now enter the configuration information using the migration wizard.

To configure the migrate to Windows 365 wizard:

  1. On the Assign users to hosts tab, enter the following information

    • Group Name: Enter a name for the group.

    • License Group: From the drop-down list, select the license group.

    • Select Next to continue.

  2. On the Provisioning Policy tab, enter the following information

    • Select Create new or Select existing.

      • If you select Create new, enter the following information:

        • Name: Enter a name for the provisioning policy.

        • Description: Enter a description for the provisioning policy.

        • Language & Region: From the drop-down list, select the language.

        • Default Cloud PC Image: From the drop-down list, select the Cloud PC image you want to use as the default image.

          Note: If a Cloud PC is reset, Windows 365 will redeploy the Cloud PC from this image.

        • Network Connection: From the drop-down list, select the network. Optionally, select the Create new network connection with the same subnet option if you want to use the same subnet for this new network connection.

        • Single Sign-On: Select this option to enable Microsoft Entra single sign-on.

      • If you select Select existing, enter the following information:

        • From the drop-down list, select the provisioning policy.

    • Select Next to configure the provisioning policy.

  3. On the User Settings tab, enter the following information:

    • Select Create new or Select existing.

      • If you select Create new, enter the following information:

        • Name: Enter a name for the user setting.

        • Local Admin Enabled: Select to elevate the end user to local administrator on all their Windows 365 Cloud PCs

        • Allow Restore: Select to allow the end user to restore their Windows 365 Cloud PC

        • Backup Frequency: From the drop-down list, select the time interval in hours to take automatic snapshots (restore points) of a Windows 365 Cloud PC .

        • Provisioning Source type: From the drop-down list, select the provisioning source type for the user settings. Select Image for image-based provisioning, or Snapshot for snapshot-based provisioning.

      • If you select Select existing, enter the following information:

        • From the drop-down list, select the existing user settings you want to use.

    • Select Next to configure a schedule.

  4. On the Schedule tab, enter the following information:

    • To create a schedule for when the migration runs, in the Schedule section, select the toggle to switch from Disabled to Enabled.

    • Once enabled, enter the following information:

      • Name: Enter a name for the schedule.

      • Description: Enter a description for the schedule.

      • Start date: Select the Start date field, and from the calendar displayed, select the date.

      • Time zone: From the drop-down list, select the time zone.

      • Start time: From the drop-down boxes, select the hour and then the minutes to set the time to run the scheduled migration.

      • Repeat: Repeating a schedule is not supported.

    • To send a message to end users that have an active session on the session host being migrated, select the toggle to switch from Disabled to Enabled.

    • Once enabled, enter the following information:

      • Delay: From the drop-down list, select the amount of time to wait after sending the message and setting the host to drain mode before starting the migration.

      • Message: Enter the message that will be displayed to all users.

    • Select Next to configure a schedule.

  5. On the Cleanup tab, enter the following information:

    • To enable Cleanup, select the toggle to switch from Disabled to Enabled.

    • Once enabled, enter the following information:

      • Time Zone: From the drop-down list, select the time zone.

      • Deletion Date: Select the Deletion date field, and from the calendar displayed, select the date.

      • Deletion Time: From the drop-down boxes, select the time to run the deletion.

    • Select Next to configure a schedule.

  6. On the Notifications tab, enter the following information:

    • To enable Notifications, select the toggle to switch from Disabled to Enabled.

    • Once enabled, enter the following information:

      • Send emails from: From the drop-down list, select the email address from which the email notification is sent.

      • Message to end user: Enter the message text.

    • Select Submit to start the migration.
